June 18th – Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians of Hume Park,
Hello everyone, my name is Iain Lancaster and I’ve taken on the administrative duties of the Home Learners’ Program while Mr. Sadler is on leave. I’ve been in the role for a little over a month now and in that time, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the Hume Park staff. I have been impressed with the dedication, professionalism and passion that each of the staff members brings to the school.
As I write this, the teachers are busy summarizing your students’ school year into a final comprehensive report card. Again, reading the things they’re saying about their students, it’s clear that Hume Park teachers are passionate about their teaching and your children’s learning.
I know this past few months has been difficult for everyone, and children are certainly no exception. I’m not sure what school is going to look like for anyone in September, but as we get closer to a fresh beginning, the teachers and the administration (perhaps myself) will be working to plan a new school year, incorporating any guidelines and/or structures deemed necessary by the government to ensure safety, and to minimize transmission opportunities for the COVID-19 virus.
As many of you already know, due to budget cuts across the district there have been cuts made to both the teaching time and the clerical time at the school. For a number of reasons, the district is forecasting a reduction in funding next year, and as a result, staff cuts have been made across the district. I fully understand that these cuts will add challenges for staff at the school, but as always, we will do our utmost to ensure that your children receive the same level of care and support that the Home Learner Program is known for.
Finally, I know many of you are concerned about Carole and her future role in the district. I’m happy to announce that she has found a full-time position as the head clerical person at Queensborough Middle School. If you’re ever out that way, make sure drop in and say hi. QMS’ gain is definitely Home Learners’ loss, thank you for everything Carole, you will definitely be missed!
Have a great summer everyone, relax and recharge the batteries for a new school year in September…whatever it may look like!
Take care,
Iain Lancaster
