One of the unique strengths of the Home Learners Program is the partnership between students, parents/caregivers, and teachers. Working together, we create meaningful learning experiences that support student growth, engagement, and success.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Parent/Caregiver (Home Facilitator)

As a home facilitator, you play an essential role in your child’s educational journey by:

  • Meeting with your child’s teacher to develop the Student Learning Plan (SLP)
  • Participating in Learning Plan review meetings throughout the year
  • Communicating regularly with your teacher and sharing evidence of learning for feedback and assessment
  • Actively supporting student learning through guidance, supervision, encouragement, and reflection
  • Establishing a consistent learning environment and routine at home
  • Celebrating your child’s growth, achievements, and learning successes

Students are encouraged to:

  • Ask for help when needed
  • Share their interests, strengths, and learning preferences
  • Participate in the development of their Learning Plan when appropriate
  • Try their best and engage actively in their learning
  • Read, listen, communicate, and participate thoughtfully
  • Reflect on their learning and growth
  • Help develop routines and learning habits that support success

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ Teacher

HLP teachers work collaboratively with families to:

  • Develop Student Learning Plans that align with BC Curriculum requirements
  • Provide and approve learning resources and educational opportunities
  • Assess student learning and provide ongoing feedback
  • Share learning updates and progress throughout the year
  • Support and guide parents/caregivers in their role as home facilitators
  • Maintain regular communication with students and families
  • Create opportunities for community building, enrichment, and in-person learning

๐ŸŒŸ Inclusive Education Support

For students with Inclusive Education designations, our Inclusive Education team works collaboratively with students, families, and teachers to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and coordinate supports that help learners achieve their goals.
